Phillip Drange is an undergraduate music student at California State University, Chico, with an expected degree in General Music, with an Emphasis in Music Education. Phillip was born in and raised in Southern California and moved to Chico in 2012 to attend Cal State Chico. He began studying percussion at the age of 10. He has since become a capable musician in all forms of percussion, including concert percussion, mallet percussion, hand percussion, marching percussion and drum set.
In the past few years Phillip has become very involved in the northern California music community. He has performed with many of the Chico State Ensembles including, Chico State Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz X-Press, A Cappella Choir and Guitar Ensemble.
In March of 2014 Phillip joined other Chico State students and traveled to Reno Nevada, to play with the College Band Directors National Association Western/Northwestern Division 2014 Intercollegiate Band. Phillip is also known for playing with several local bands. One of the groups, “The Upstairs Neighbours” can often seen playing for the Chico Saturday Farmers Market.
Phillip has also received many scholarships and awards from CSU Chico. Some of these include the Josh Read Memorial Scholarship, Marie Graf/Jack Brown Scholarship, and Edith Gould Award.
